Safe Staff Member Pledge

As a Safe Staff member I will . . .

Post a Safe Staff Team list in my classroom/office, this raising student and staff awareness of services.

Examine personal attitudes and beliefs.

Challenge hate speech, name-calling, harassment, and discrimination and real or threatened violence as it relates to GLBT students, staff, or families, or those perceived to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.

Be comfortable talking about GLBT issues and with GLBT people.

Continue learning about the issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students, staff, and families, through asking questions, ongoing conversations with others, reading, participating in trainings, and in-services.

Respect confidentiality concerning questions about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues.

Be aware of services available to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth and adults, including Out for Equity, Safe Staff, support groups, and other community resources.

Help set a school climate of safety and support for all students, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students and staff (e.g., address jokes and name-calling).

Invite others to join in creating supportive and safe school climates for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students, staff, and families.

Be accurately informed about GLBT issues.
